CBT 1 Syllabus

  • Mathematics (30 Questions): Number Systems, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM/HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple/Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Elementary Statistics.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning (25 Questions): Analogies, Series (Alphabetical/Number), Coding-Decoding, Mathematical Operations, Relationships, Syllogisms, Venn Diagrams, Data Interpretation, and Decision Making.
  • General Awareness (15 Questions): Current Affairs, Indian History, Geography, Polity, Constitution, Economics, Environment, Sports, and General Scientific/Technological Developments.
  • General Science (30 Questions): Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences (broadly based on the 10th standard CBSE curriculum).

CBT 2 Syllabus — Non-Technical Section (Common to all)

Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Metallurgy, Chemical, and Production Engineering are eligible depending on the specific post.

Can diploma holders apply for JE?

Yes, candidates holding a 3-year Diploma in Engineering from a recognized university/institute are fully eligible.

Can B.Tech candidates apply?

Is there a bond after joining?

Yes, an indemnity bond is typically required covering the cost of training if you leave within a specified period.

Is there departmental promotion?

Yes, JEs can be promoted to Senior Section Engineer (SSE) and later to Gazetted roles through departmental exams (LDCE).

Can final-year students apply?

No. Candidates must possess the required degree/diploma by the closing date of application (13 September 2026). Final-year students awaiting results on that date are not eligible under CEN 04/2026.

Is there normalization in CBT?

How many attempts are allowed?

There is no strict limit on the number of attempts. As long as you meet the age and eligibility criteria, you can apply.

Is the exam bilingual?

Yes, questions are typically available in English, Hindi, and select regional languages.

Virtual calculators are generally permitted only in CBT 2, but physical calculators are strictly banned. Check the latest CEN guidelines for confirmation.

Is there sectional cut-off?

No, there is an overall cut-off mark, not individual sectional cut-offs.

What are the medical standards for JE?

Standards vary by post (e.g., A3, B1, B2, C1). High visual acuity and color vision are strictly required for safety categories like Signal & Telecom and P-Way.

How is the final merit prepared?

The final merit is based entirely on the normalized marks scored in CBT 2. CBT 1 is only for screening/shortlisting.

Can candidates apply to multiple RRBs?

No, candidates can only apply to a single RRB. Multiple applications will lead to rejection.

Will vacancies increase later?

Vacancies are provisional and may increase or decrease based on railway administration requirements before panel formation.
