RRB JE Age Limit 2026
It is not enough to say “18–33”. Under CEN 04/2026 the minimum age is 18 years and the maximum is 33 years for UR/EWS candidates, both reckoned as on 1 January 2027 (the notification's prescribed cutoff date). The age is applied through an explicit date-of-birth window: you must be born not earlier than 2 January 1994 and not later than 1 January 2009 (for UR/EWS).
| Category | Max age (as on 01.01.2027) | Relaxation | DOB not earlier than |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR / EWS | 33 years | — | 02.01.1994 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 36 years | +3 years | 02.01.1991 |
| SC / ST | 38 years | +5 years | 02.01.1989 |
| PwBD (UR/EWS) | 43 years | +10 years | 02.01.1984 |

| Ex-Servicemen (UR/EWS) | 36 years | +3 years | 02.01.1991 |
| Ex-Servicemen (OBC-NCL) | 39 years | +6 years | 02.01.1988 |
| Ex-Servicemen (SC/ST) | 41 years | +8 years | 02.01.1986 |
| Women — Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated (not remarried) UR/EWS | 35 years | Up to 35 | 02.01.1992 |
| Women — Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated (not remarried) OBC-NCL | 38 years | Up to 38 | 02.01.1989 |
| Women — Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated (not remarried) SC/ST | 40 years | Up to 40 | 02.01.1987 |
Relevant special cases: Serving Group C/D Railway staff with at least 3 years of service get upper-age relaxation up to 40 (UR/EWS), 43 (OBC-NCL) and 45 (SC/ST) years; candidates in quasi-administrative railway offices get length of service or 5 years, whichever is less. Age is computed as on 1 January 2027 — the checker above applies the exact DOB window for every category.
RRB JE Educational Qualification 2026
Under CEN 04/2026 the educational qualification is post-specific — this is where a generic age + diploma checker goes wrong. One more rule applies to every post: the qualification must be completed on or before 13 September 2026 (the last date of application). Candidates awaiting final results on that date are not eligible.
| Post | Prescribed qualification (CEN 04/2026) |
|---|---|
| Junior Engineer (JE) | Three-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline from a recognized institute, OR B.E./B.Tech in the relevant engineering stream from a recognized university. |
| Junior Engineer — IT | PGDCA / B.Sc. (Computer Science or IT) / BCA / MCA / B.E.-B.Tech (Computer Science or IT) / three-year Diploma in Computer Science, IT or Computer Engineering. The IT post has its own, more specific list — see the IT section below. |
| Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) | Three-year Diploma in Engineering in any discipline, OR Degree in Engineering in any discipline, from a recognized institute. |
| Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) | B.Sc. in Science with Physics and Chemistry with a minimum of 55% marks. |
RRB JE Qualification for Diploma Holders
Diploma holders are fully eligible for CEN 04/2026. A three-year Diploma in Engineering satisfies:
- JE — if the diploma is in an accepted discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics, ECE, Instrumentation, Production).
- DMS — any engineering diploma, in any discipline.
- JE (IT) — a Diploma in Computer Science / IT / Computer Engineering.
A diploma does not qualify for CMA, which requires a B.Sc. with Physics & Chemistry.
RRB JE Qualification for B.E./B.Tech Candidates
B.E./B.Tech graduates are eligible for JE (in the relevant stream) and DMS (any branch). But don't assume a B.Tech automatically qualifies for every JE discipline — the branch must match the post parameters: a B.Tech in Computer Science, for example, does not qualify for the general JE posts (it maps to the JE (IT) post instead), and a B.Tech does not satisfy CMA.
RRB JE Branch-wise Eligibility
The table below uses the actual CEN 04/2026 post parameters — no “equivalent branch” assumptions have been added. The checker filters disciplines the same way.
| Post | Accepted disciplines |
|---|---|
| JE (Civil department) | Civil Engineering |
| JE (Mechanical department) | Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering |
| JE (Electrical department) | Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering |
| JE (Signal & Telecommunication) | Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Instrumentation / Instrumentation & Control |
| JE — IT | Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering (see the IT section below) |
| DMS | Any engineering discipline (diploma or degree) |
| CMA | Science — B.Sc. with Physics & Chemistry (min. 55%) |
Metallurgy and Chemical engineering disciplines are not accepted for the general JE posts in this recruitment — they belong to the CMA stream. Computer Science/IT belongs to the JE (IT) post, not the general JE posts.
RRB JE IT, DMS & CMA Eligibility — Kept Separate
RRB JE IT Eligibility
The JE (IT) post has its own, more specific qualification list: PGDCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science or IT), BCA, MCA, B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science or IT, or a three-year Diploma in Computer Science, IT or Computer Engineering, completed on or before 13 September 2026. Note the difference from the general JE posts: a 3-year B.Sc. Computer Science degree is accepted here, but it does not make a candidate eligible for the main JE posts, because a general (non-engineering) B.Sc. is not equivalent to an engineering qualification.
RRB DMS Eligibility
Depot Material Superintendent (Stores department, 324 vacancies) is the most branch-friendly post in this recruitment: a Diploma or Degree in Engineering in any discipline qualifies. If your engineering branch isn't accepted for any JE discipline, DMS is very often still open to you — the checker reflects this automatically.
RRB CMA Eligibility
Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant is a science post: B.Sc. in Science with Physics and Chemistry, minimum 55% marks. Engineering diplomas and degrees do not satisfy it, so an engineer and a B.Sc. (P&C) candidate will get opposite results on this post — the checker handles both.
Why am I not eligible?
The most common reasons candidates fail the CEN 04/2026 eligibility check — and why the checker above asks post, qualification, branch, DOB and category instead of just “age + diploma”:
- Wrong engineering discipline — your branch exists, but it isn't in the post's accepted list (e.g. Computer Science/IT against the general JE posts).
- Qualification doesn't match the specified post — e.g. a B.Sc. with Physics & Chemistry against JE, or an engineering diploma against CMA.
- Qualification not completed by the required date — results still awaited on 13 September 2026.
- Age exceeds applicable limit — outside the 18–33 base window (or the relaxed window for your category) as on 1 January 2027.
- Incorrect category/relaxation selection — claiming a relaxation you can't document at document verification.
- Assuming B.E./B.Tech automatically qualifies for every JE discipline — post parameters matter.
- Assuming a general B.Sc. degree is equivalent to an engineering qualification — it isn't, except where the notification explicitly lists it (JE (IT) and CMA).
